|VT 18.16 (from 1970: Class 175) is a diesel-hydraulic high-speed locomotive of the former East-German railway company Deutsche Reichsbahn or DR (German Reich Railways). The VT18.16 locomotive was build between 1963 to 1968 by VEB Waggonbau Görlitz and was considered a competitor of the TEE's (Trans Europ Express) VT 11.5 lead engine. The prototype was equipped with two 900 horsepower engines allowing it to travel at speeds as high as 160 km/h. The locomotive was therefore named VT (Verbrennungstriebwagen meaning Combustion Lead Engine), 18 (1800 horsepower) and 16 (for 160 km/h). Later, the production version of the VT 18.16 received two 1000 horsepower prime mowers.|
