• Hi

I have for some time been thinking about, why we write so much code on the trainset pages that are unnessary. ex

|car1name = Silicon Wagon silicon
|car1pic = QUBE Silicon.png
|car1link = QUBE Silicon gems

instead we could write

| car1pic= QUBE Silicon
| car1cost= gems
| car1type= Sili

and have the same result.

The template add the .png to the var car1pic when displaying the image, it reuse the car1pic when displaying the name of the item and since these 2 fields always are the same this shouldn't give any problems.

You can take a peek at these 2 I have changed at the danish TS page. Sunray Freight I & Mantis Cargo

And the Tsmeta template for the danish version can you find here. Tsmeta.

Is this something we should consider implementing into our page. On one of the pages I have tested it on, I have saved around 30% in size by doing this.

PLease let me know what you think about this idea.

• I've done some edits on the NL page, there it won't function with the pics. Passenger Cars are translated to 1e Klasse, 2e klasse and the cargo wagons are also translated to Spijkers (nails) etc.
So it is there
car1pic= QUBE Silicon.png
car1type = sili
car1link = QUBE Silicum
see also http://nl.trainstation.wikia.com/wiki/Sunray_Freight_I

• I like the idea, when i added the car#type i've been thinking in making things shorter

Your suggestion re-uses old parameters, which requires editting ALL train sets
My suggestion:

• car# - for name and image
• It's a new parameter so we don't have to edit older train sets
• We can keep car#name & car#pic, which will override car# when used (for cases the image name can't be the same as loco name, ie: C 5/6 Crescendo)
• car#cost - for gems, gold, or dual (plain text)
• It's a new parameter, can be configured to override car#link when used
• car#type - for type of wagon
• Already in use ;)
        Loading editor
• I'm working on a test template, with the following parameters:

• loco - overrides locopic & locolink when present
• car# - overrides car#link & car#pic when present
• car#cost - adds gem/gold/dual icon behind the car link when car# is present
• car#type - overrides car#name when present (already in use)
        Loading editor
• So far i only have the first 2 wagons working, but no car#cost yet
Accepted parameters:

• loco
• locopic - overrides loco
• locolink - overrides loco
• car#
• car#pic - overrides car#
• car#link - overrides car#
• car#type
• car#name - overrides car#type

• I have made some changes to the templates on the Danish site.

So now these params are available to loco's

|car1name = Silicon Wagon silicon

|locopic= {}
|loconame= {{#if: {}|{loconame}|{locopic}}}
|lococost= {}

And for wagons these params are available.

|car1pic= {}
|car1name= {{#if: {}|{}|{}}}
|car1type= {}
|car1cost= {}

So if the param |loconame are set this name are written below the train, but the link still referring to the locopic page. and this also goes for the car?name.

and I have change the template so we only have to write dual, gold or gems in the *?cost param's then the template add the missing to the param.

Is there anything else we should change to the template.

I could also make it so it can handle all the old params to, or we could make this template:trainset_new and use this instead when we create new trainset pages, and when we for any reason update the old setpages.

• Your template is not compattible with the first (original) trainset input:

{{Trainset

• Hello Try to take a look at the Sunray Freight I & Mantis Cargo, then you will se that both the old and the new params now are working from the same template.

And the Trainset template have been almost totally rewritten to make this work.

Old params:

|car2link = Mantis Fuel Gems
|car2pic = Mantis Fuel.png
|car2name = Fuel Wagon Fuel

New params:

| car1img= Sunray Cement (Name of the image file without extentions)
| car1name= (Alternative name if it is different that img)
| car1cost= gems         (Cost= gold, gems, dual)
| car1type= Cement (Type= matr, pass, mail, XP)
| car1rew= y (rew = if first letter are r/y then reward any other letters result in blank.)

I'm looking forward to get some feedback.

        Loading editor
• It works good, but i think car#img is a bit confusing, people might think it's only for the image and add .png, i still think loco and car# for both link and image is better (and shorter)
And i think you should change car#rew to car#rwd, but thats more a matter of personal taste

        Loading editor
• If car#img & locoimg are confusing please give me an alternative name that is not car#pic & locopic.

        Loading editor
• car# & loco

        Loading editor
• That is not a problem for me to change. I'll do this later

        Loading editor
• Now the params has been changed from car#img to car# and from locoimg to loco.

        Loading editor
• Looks good, works great!

Found a tiny little bug in it:
|loco = Mr. General
|locopic = Crampton.png
Shows image of Mr. General, locopic doesn't override loco
Same goes for the wagons

        Loading editor
• I've played with Trainset a little and have some additions.

• locorew doesn't cover the case when an item has gold and/or gems price and also can be rewarded: slash / needed;
• don't try to save few characters: use gold/gems/dual as params for lococost, the code should be readable and understandable for all wiki editors.
        Loading editor
• locorew is for when the loco has been a reward, gold/gems/dual go to lococost
No one has to see/read the template itself to understand it, the only things editors have to understand are the parameters, the length of a parameter name is of no importance, editors enter gold/gems/dual by default anyway, so if the template is set to look at just the 2 first letters, then there's no problem with it

        Loading editor
• I meant that some items are/were avalible for gold/gems and also can be rewarded like Mr. General (Set). Then "/" is needed between the cost and reward icons.

Trainset test templ

TrashTerrier wrote: so if the template is set to look at just the 2 first letters, then there's no problem with it

Two see more than one, i completely missed that one :P

        Loading editor
• Now I have added the / in the case that there are both cost and reward, if only one of the params are avalible there are no /.

And remember there shouldn't be around the value at the cartype, nut I can add in that in case a editor add these the value still will be displayed.

• Should I move it over to the English version of the TS site.

        Loading editor
• Sure

        Loading editor
• Do you have the car#type like it was already there?
I mean, does dual input still need the icon templates?

        Loading editor
• You can either use the old input

|locopic = Mantis.png
|locolink = Mantis Gems

|car1link = Mantis Cement Gems
|car1pic = Mantis Cement.png
|car1name = Cement Wagon Cement

or the new

| loco= Sunray Quad
| loconame=
| lococost= 2dual

| car1= Sunray Cement
| car1name=
| car1cost= edu
| car1type= Cement
| car1rew= y

where name is only needed if you want to put in another name than the image are named ex."C 5/6 Crescendo", where the image are named "C 56 Crescendo" because we can't use the / in filename.

        Loading editor
• And Yes Car?type works as it always have. And Car?cost takes Dual, gold, gems as input. and if car?rew are filled with y, yes, r, reward it add Icon Storage Reward

If both cost and rew are set there will be added a / between them.

and if you want I can change the rew to rwd.

        Loading editor
• So car#type still accepts car#type=dual wire / {{wood}?

        Loading editor
• car#type accept all the materials, gold, gems, dual, xp as it always have.

but it don't accept the around the names, witch it don't do today either. since the TsMeta only looks at the first 4 characters of the type values.

Infobox_stationItem can already have the offer info in it

I've recently made some changes to disable buyback_cost/level when not in use, and with a few more changes it can even have Sam's discounted costs

At the Dutch wiki i'm already using Infobox_shop & stationItem for flags (even for themes)
What works for buildings/deco's/etc.. can also work for flags

Btw, not sure if i told you, but i've been working on a cost system with an extra parameter so we need only 1 template (cost) for normal and discounted cost

• May I come with an Idear, I know that we haven't done this any where before.

the column with the statisics info, split this into 2 colums so the values are displayed 1 the first, and the icons in the second. that way we get a bit more space in between.

and at the gold/gems columns, split the info column into 3.

1. normal price,
2. discounted price.
3. icon (gold, Gems, XP)

and for ex. the columns with discounted prices have another background colour,

• There are no problem identifying if it is a diesel or a decoration.

They both have d in the type, but you could as an sub switch just test if tax is set if so then it is a diesel and else it is a decor.

and on all the templates we should be able to add SO and VO as a list below the item informations.

        Loading editor
• Now it handels both diesel and decorations by adding a IF in the existing switch, that looks at tax if this field has value it must be a train, if not it can't be a train.

• I know that the layout isn't right at this point, but this can be fixed if you like the idear.

And we should also consider the text below the build column.

And should we display the contractors name as a link, so if we click on it the user are sent to the contractors page og the contractors shop?

        Loading editor
• Yikes! lol
I'd say combine pass, size and ratio (not rotation) and call it stats, then you have 5 columns, 1 unused, make build colspan="2" to solve that, and create more space for the info

        Loading editor
• Maybe you can combine the build info into the contractor name and link it to the contractors page. If it isn't used in any contract then link to the shop.

• I have just updated the templates according to your request.

Hi Rolf Al, I can't see that this should be a problem, Where do you want the information displayed? And please give me an example so I know what to put in? where do you find the buyback?

        Loading editor
• Buyback is bothering me too, it's obsolete, and only adds confusion

        Loading editor
• My understanding of buyback is that it is the cost if you wanted to buy an item that you by mistake had sold, and since that option doesn't exist anymore, it should not be displayed anywhere.

But I can have misunderstood what buyback is.

        Loading editor
• I'll log of for now, i'll be back later on the day.

        Loading editor
• Buyback was a section of the shop where you could buy back items you sold by accident, or on purpose to gain storage space

        Loading editor
• Okay then I wasn't wrong in my understanding of it. Then the question is if we should drop it or keep it.

My personal opinion is that we should drop it because it is a useless information.

        Loading editor
• I had meant to replace the Award Information, which shows the buyback-part of trains and wagons, with a Reward Information only for buildings etc. without showing this buyback-part.
For buildings etc. it doesn't make any sense, if you sold one by mistake you have to ask support if you can get it back.
For rolling stock we have to decide if we want to keep the old history. "Pella gave me this reason", when I asked a year ago and I remember right.

        Loading editor
• Pella or Mike said we should keep it as historical info, but i agree with you
I removed it at the NL wiki, only the (empty) columns are still there

        Loading editor
• I remove it when I see the lines in articles. I feel it should just go away as it is confusing because the buyback option is long gone.

        Loading editor
• For new items I don't edit them in. For old entries I remove only empty lines, cause we have no chance to get the data.

        Loading editor
• buyback part are now removed from the template.

I have just edited your test page, the reason that you didn't get it displayed correct was that you had used the wrong parameter and the wrong function.

I wouldn't change the names while we discuss the options in these changes.

I'll change it later so we hopefully can use the the old params directly, just by moving the information inside the infobox call.

        Loading editor
• Ok, my fault to use the wrong function.
But it has still the mispelling by creating a NEW category New york instead of New York and it doesn't matter if the param theme = is nyc or new
