The SNCB Série 16 is a electric locomotive built for the state owned National Railway Company of Belgium. The first eight engines, formerly known as Class 160, were put into service in 1966 as multi-system locomotives, that were able to run in 1,5kV and 3kV direct current systems as well as in 25kV 50Hz and 15kV 16,7Hz alternating current systems. In this configuration, these engines were able to operate in Belgium, France, Netherlands and Germany and so they were used mainly for hauling long distance international trains. Later on, Class 16 has been replaced by Thalys trains. The last engines were withdrawn in March 2010. Engines no.1602 and 1608 were donated to museums.
