BHP Iron Ore had two locomotives build new as CM40-8 models by A. Goninan, at Bassendean Western Australia, while their Alco fleet was being rebuilt into CM40-8M models. Delivered in late 1992 and early 1993. Numbered 5646 and 5647, both units entered service in the BHP Iron Ore blue and white livery and both now wear the BHP Billiton 'earth livery'.
