Museum
Union Pacific 3985 or Challenger is an articulated 4-6-6-4 steam locomotive owned by Union Pacific Railroad. The UP 3985 locomotive was built in 1943 by the American Locomotive Company. It is currently the largest operational steam locomotive in the world. Designed by Otto Jabelmann in 1941, the design drew on recent experience with the enormous Big Boy locomotives. The Challengers and Big Boys arrived on the scene just as America started it's preparation for participation in World War II.
