XP Boosting
As with most games, people are always looking for ways to "boost" their XP so that they can level up faster, thereby gaining access to larger and better items. One of the ways that can be achieved in TrainStation is by purchasing high XP locomotives with gold earned by completing contracts or running passenger and mail service to "local" stations.
To aid in discovering which locomotives are best suited for this task, I've compiled the list below. All of the locomotives on this list can be purchased for gold in the game store, and can be purchased in unlimited quantities. Yes, you can buy locomotives for gems that give much better XP, and yes there may be locomotives with a limit of 1 that have better XP stats, but that is not the focus of this page. These can be purchased 100 or 200 or 300 at a time to speed the process of "boosting".

Just a quick note regarding the XP/Cost and Cost/XP column headers. The XP/Cost header represents the ratio of how much XP you get per unit of gold you spend, so you want this number to be as large as possible. The Cost/XP header represents the amount of gold you spend per unit of XP, so you want this number to be as small as possible. You know you have the list sorted best to worst when the Crampton is the first locomotive on the list.
