| The Garratt articulated locomotive was developed by Herbert William Garratt, a British locomotive engineer. He first applied for a patent on the idea in 1907, after observing articulated gun carriages. Indian P Class Garratt locomotive is the biggest and one of the most powerful steam locomotives used in India. There were 4 P Class locomotives made in 1939 taking the total number of Garratt locomotives used in India to 83 engines.|
