	The ŠKODA 498 steam locomotives were ordered by the ČSD (Czechoslovak State Railways) to reestablish the post-war railroad traffic in the country. 40 of the 498.0's were built, intended to pull heavy express trains, reaching speeds of up to 135 km/h and the revised 498.1 engine breaking the national speed record after reaching the speed of 162 km/h in 1964. During their service, the 498's have obtained the nickname "Albatros".
