Bourbonnais is a type of steam locomotive with 3 driving axles. This configuration was common on early steam locomotives of many railways, in particular railways which operated on the winding routes of mountains. This pattern was later reserved for shunting engines (usually called Boër). Even though they have identical axle configuration, you can distinguish the Mammoth class and the original Bourbonnais class by spotting the small differences on the external driving distribution mechanism. |
